Choi Eun-soon (76), the mother-in-law of President Yoon Seok-yeol메이저사이트, was sentenced to imprisonment in an appeals trial related to counterfeiting bank account balances and was arrested in court.
At the sentencing hearing held at the hearing of the 3rd Criminal Division of the Uijeongbu District Court (Chief Judge Lee Seong-gyun), the judge dismissed the defendant’s appeal, saying, “There is no reason to accept the defendant’s appeal given the overall circumstances.”
Mr. Choi was indicted on four occasions from April 1 to October 11, 2013, in the process of purchasing land in Dochon-dong, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, on charges of forging a balance certificate as if a total of 34.9 billion won was deposited in a savings bank. He is also accused of colluding with his partner Ahn Mo to file a lawsuit for the return of down payment related to Dochon-dong land on August 7, 2013, and submitting a forged balance certificate of about 10 billion won to the court.
Previously, Mr. Choi was sentenced to one year in prison in the first trial, but was not arrested in court. The first trial judge admitted guilt, saying, “The amount of the forged balance certificate was a large amount, and he committed the crime repeatedly, and tried to undermine the fairness of the trial by submitting the forged balance certificate as evidence. It also seems that he obtained a considerable profit by purchasing real estate under a borrowed name.”
