The Korea Football Association has begun the process of appointing the next national team head coach, appointing Jung Hae-sung, a former member of the association’s competition committee from the Hiddink division, as the new chairman of the national team’s power reinforcement committee.

The Korea Football Association held an executive meeting on the 20th and formed a new power reinforcement committee with a total of 11 members, including Chung. It has been four days since Jurgen Klinsmann confirmed his replacement on the 16th. The power reinforcement committee will be in charge of compression of candidates for the next national team coach and final interviews. If the power reinforcement committee recommends the final candidate, the association’s board of directors will decide whether to appoint the final candidate.

Chung was one of the Korean coaches who assisted Coach Guus Hiddink during the 2002 World Cup Korea-Japan, contributing to the team’s advance to the semifinals. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Chung was the head coach of coach Huh Jung-moo, contributing to Korea’s first advance to the round of 16 teams in an away game. He was also a coach for six months under Coach Uli Stielike in 2017, and is well versed in the management of the national team. In the K-League, he coached Jeju United and Jeonnam Dragons, and also served as the chairman of the association’s referee committee.

According to the association’s articles of association, the chairman of the subcommittee, including the chairman of the power reinforcement committee, is nominated among the incumbent board members. 꽁머니지급

The association unusually replaced all of its members, increasing the size of the power reinforcement committee by one more than before. The new members were appointed as Kimpo FC head coach Ko Jeong-woon, Soongsil University head coach Park Sung-bae, commentator Park Joo-ho, former Gwangju FC head coach Song Myung-won, Sejong Sports Toto head coach Yoon Deok-yeo, Gangwon FC head coach Yoon Jung-hwan, Gangwon FC head coach Lee Mi-yeon, Sang-ki Lee, former head of sports-related startups, Lee Young-jin, former coach of the Vietnamese national team, and Jeon Kyung-joon, chairman of the Korea Professional Football Federation’s technical committee.

With the formation of a new power reinforcement committee, the task of appointing the next head coach of the national team will gain momentum. With only one month until the second consecutive match against Thailand of the second Asian qualifying round for the 2026 North-Central American World Cup scheduled for September 21 and 26, it seems more likely that the team appoints a formal coach through interim coach rather than urgently appointing a captain to lead the national team until the World Cup. Currently, former Gangwon coach Choi Yong-soo, Ulsan HD coach Hong Myung-bo, Jeju coach Kim Hak-beom, FC Seoul coach Kim Ki-dong and Olympic team coach Hwang Sun-hong are on the list of candidates for interim coach.

Meanwhile, the new power reinforcement committee will hold its first meeting on the 21st and announce the direction and future plans for the appointment of the director.
