Condolence procession to Severance, Sinchon

On the afternoon of the 15th, the mortuary메이저사이트 of Yoon Ki-joong, professor emeritus at Yonsei University, the father of President Yoon Seok-yeol, was set up at the funeral hall of Severance Hospital in Sinchon, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.

While the funeral will be held on the 3rd, it is said that only minimal condolences will be made, including academic figures close to the deceased, as Professor Yoon served in the Department of Applied Statistics at Yonsei University. Until recently, Professor Yoon had been hospitalized at Seoul National University Hospital.

An official from the presidential office said, “Because we decided to proceed as the head of the family, we will completely control visitors except for family members and other condolence guests.”

Still, the funeral hall was crowded with mourners and reporters. The police deployed guards inside and outside the building, including a riot squad. Funeral home officials installed partitions around the mortuary to minimize exposure to the mortuary. Inside the building, only visitors whose identities were confirmed through a condolence identification procedure at one side of the entrance were allowed to enter.

Lee Jin-bok, senior secretary for political affairs to the President, who visited the mortuary that afternoon, met with reporters and said, “As the head of the family, we are receiving only a minimum number of visitors.” I think it will happen,” he said.

At the mortuary, a procession of condolences from the Presidential Office staff, including Chief of Staff Kim Dae-gi, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations Kim Eun-hye, and First Secretary Jeon Hee-gyeong, followed. Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, People’s Power Representative Kim Ki-hyun, Floor Leader Yoon Jae-ok, Policy Committee Chairman Park Dae-dal, and Secretary General Lee Chul-gyu decided to pay their condolences around 6 pm on the same day. It is known that Lee Jae-myung, the head of the Democratic Party of Korea, plans to stop by the mortuary around 7:30 pm to pay condolences.

This is the second time the parents of an incumbent president have been honored. Former President Moon Jae-in passed away on October 29, 2019, when his mother was in office. President Yoon Seok-yeol is the first to honor the father of an incumbent president.
