UK, US, Belgium… World Scout Federation “request for early closure”

The British, American, and Belgian delegations메이저사이트 participating in the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree decided to withdraw early, putting the Jamboree in danger of virtually limping.

Lou Fallen, Executive Director of the Boy Scouts of America, sent a letter to the participants and their parents, saying, “We have decided to leave the Jamboree site early due to the extreme weather and the resulting on-site conditions.”

The US delegation explained that they plan to continue their regular program until today, then move to the US military base in Pyeongtaek, Camp Humphreys, and stay until the 11th before leaving the country.

The Belgian embassy also inquired if scouts could be accommodated in a large facility in Incheon, but it seems that they are actually preparing for withdrawal.

Meanwhile, the World Scout Federation ( WOSM ) proposed a plan to end the Saemangeum Jamboree early, but it was reported that our organizers rejected it.

The federation issued a statement on its homepage early today (5th) and said, “We have requested the Korean organizers to review a plan to finish the event earlier than planned and support the participants until they leave the country.”

However, “the organizers decided to continue the event and said they would do everything, including mobilizing additional resources to address the heat wave,” he added.

With the US and UK leaving, about 15% of the total number of participants, 39,304, were dropped.

At 9:00 am today, there will be a meeting of delegations from each country, and additional countries may come forward to leave.

If a significant number of countries, including the US, UK and Belgium, decide to withdraw further, it seems that this Saemangeum Jamboree will not be able to avoid the stigma of being the worst event in the Jamboree’s 100-year history.
