South Korea Women’s Taekwondo wins World Cup Team Championship Series team title

South Korea’s women’s taekwondo team wins the team event on the first day of the World Cup Team Championship Series.

The Korean women’s taekwondo team topped Morocco in the team final on the first day of the World Taekwondo 2023 Team Championship Series at KINTEX in Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do, on Thursday.

After defeating favorite China in the semifinals with a 2-1 round robin score, Korea won an exploratory game against Morocco in the first round of the final. In the second round, with South Korea trailing 170-175 with 54 seconds left, Hong Hyo-rim landed a downward head attack on a substitution to make it 170-160. The tournament featured eight countries – Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico, Iran, Morocco, Ivory Coast, and South Korea. Matches were played in a tag-match format, with three men’s and three women’s teams, and a four-man mixed team event that was introduced at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The tournament will be held in the style of power taekwondo, where the first team to subtract the opponent’s power bar, which is worth 200 points, wins. The tournament will run until the 16th.

The men’s team competition will be held on the 15th and the mixed team competition on the 16th.
