President Yoon appoints Shin Won-sik and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon

Yes, the President’s Office announced a little while ago that President Yoon Seok-yeol appointed two candidates, Shin Won-sik and Yoo In-chon, as Minister of National Defense and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, respectively.

Candidate Shin became the 18th ministerial-level person to be appointed without a personnel hearing report under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.

Previously, the ruling and opposition parties were unable to agree on a schedule for a plenary meeting of the National Defense Commission to discuss adoption of the report until the 4th, the original deadline for sending the report.

Accordingly, on the 5th, two days ago, President Yoon requested the National Assembly to resend the personnel hearing report on candidate Shin.

The deadline was set for yesterday (the 6th), but as it was not sent in the end, the appointment was made today (the 7th).

The personnel hearing progress report for Minister of Culture, Sports 안전놀이터and Tourism candidate Yoo In-chon was adopted by the National Assembly yesterday (6th).

However, the report included both qualified and unqualified opinions, reflecting the opposition party’s concerns about Candidate Yoo’s alleged involvement in the ‘blacklist’.

The report’s overall opinion emphasized field-oriented actions, saying, “The candidate was always in the field and had a balanced perspective based on field experience even when serving as minister.”

In addition, there was also an opinion that it was inappropriate, saying, “Although various evidence and testimony support that the candidate was involved in the blacklist while he was serving as minister, he completely denies this.”
