‘District 1 selection’ Wainwright hot fight… USA, WBC off to a fresh start

The United States, a candidate to win the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), happily reported its first victory. The U.S., which had a super luxurious team before the tournament, is aiming for a second consecutive championship.

The United States won 6-2 against Great Britain in the first match of WBC Group C held at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on the 12th. The U.S. put forward starting pitcher Adam Wainwright (41, St. Louis Cardinals). Wainwright, an old veteran who took the position of ‘district 1 starter’, recorded 4 innings, 5 hits, 1 home run, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk and 1 run. 4th hitter Nolan Eronado (St. Louis) went 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs, and 5th hitter Kyle Schwarber (Philadelphia Phillies) helped the team win with a 3-run home run.

Wainwright was shaken once. Tracy Thompson of Great Britain hit a left-handed home run, and the United States scored first. However, the U.S. tied the game with Eronado’s timely double in the 3rd inning with a chance to run 1 out and 2nd base created by intertwining an opponent’s error and a wild pitch. Kyle Tucker (Houston Astros) hit a timely hit with 2nd out, 1st and 3rd base.

In the 4th inning, with 2 out, 1st and 2nd bases, the USA turned 2-1, and Schwarber kicked up British pitcher Ryan Long’s changeup and scored 3 runs over the right fence.안전놀이터

In the first match of Group D, Colombia beat Mexico 5-4 after extra time. Colombia and Mexico faced off 4-4 until the ninth inning, and went into an extra 10th inning match. In this tournament, if there is no win or loss by the ninth inning, a match-up starts with the runner on second base from the 10th inning.

In the top of the 10th inning, Colombia sent a runner to third base with Elias Diaz’s fly ball from second base. Reynaldo also continued his chance with an infield hit by Rodriguez.
