Shohei Ohtani (30, Los Angeles Dodgers) achieved 50 Club-50 steals and recorded the highest number of RBIs in a game.
Ohtani started the 2024 MLB Miami Marlins away game at Rondipo Park in Miami, Florida on the 20th (Korea time) and recorded six hits, three homers, two steals and 10 RBIs in six at-bats. It was truly a monster performance.
Ohtani became the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases. After hitting a double to right-center at his first at-bat in the top of the first inning, he succeeded by performing a double steal operation by the bench at chances at first and second bases, and after getting on base with a timely hit in the second inning, he stole 51st base in front of Mookie Betts’ at-bat.
He also hit two home runs right away. Ohtani came to the batter’s box with one out and runners on first in the top of the sixth inning and hit a homer over the right-center fence off Miami pitcher Jorge Soriano. He rolled up the second-lowest course slider with a ball count of 0 balls-1 strikes. He tied the Dodgers’ record of most homeruns in a single season, marking his 49th individual homerun. Ohtani became the fifth batter with the Dodgers leading 12-3 at the top of the seventh inning with two outs and a third base, and hit pitcher Mike Baumann’s knuckle curve to cross the left-center fence to fill his 50th homerun. It was an away game, but cheers poured in. Ohtani finally smiled comfortably. 안전놀이터
Dodgers faced off to a 14-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Miami put fielder Vidal Bruyne on the mound. After giving up a pitch to Max Muncy, he handled Gavin Lux and Andy Pazs, and it seemed as if Ohtani would not be able to take the batter’s box. However, Chris Taylor had a hit and was able to take the batter’s box for the sixth time, sending a high pitch like a batting ball to the upper right-center field, marking his third homer of the game and 51st homer of the season.
Ohtani, who hit a double, a single, and a homerun in succession, even challenged himself to become a cycling hit on the day he joined the 50-50 club. Ohtani added one more homerun, recording more hits. Six hits, 10 RBIs and 17 hits in six times at bat. His 10 RBIs in a game are his 16th in MLB history. Ohtani’s personal record is also high.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers secured its 91st win (62 losses) on the day, confirming its advance to the PS regardless of the remaining games. It is the 12th consecutive year. It is the fourth after the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, and Cleveland Guardians.
Ohtani, who made his big league debut with the Los Angeles Angels in the 2018 season, has never played in the PS for six seasons until last season. Ohtani, who expressed his commitment to win the World Series after transferring to the Dodgers ahead of this season, will start the fall baseball league for the first time. Sept. 20 was Ohtani’s Day.
