Jangan University appointed former KT Wiz head coach Sanghoon Lee as the first head coach and began the establishment of the baseball team in earnest.
Jangan University is a private college located in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, and held a ceremony to appoint a manager and coach of the men’s baseball team at Hana Hall of Jangan University’s university headquarters on the 16th.
The first coach is Sanghoon Lee, a former coach of KT Wiz Futures. Chung Young-sik, a former coach of Bae Myung-joong and Ko, was appointed as a coach. In addition, former coach Kim Jin-wook, who served as head coach of Doosan Bears and KT Wiz, will join as an advisor to help Jangan University’s baseball team quickly establish itself.
The appointment ceremony was attended by Lee Jong-jin, president of Jangan University, Jeong Sa-eon, director of planning, Kim Dong-pil, director of general affairs, director of the student support department, Ryu Kyung-hee, professor of daily sports, Kim Sung-hee, professor of daily sports, Lee Seok-dong, professor of daily sports at Jinyoung Kim, and Chung A-ram, professor of daily sports, and Kim Jin-wook, former director of Doosan and KT, Ryu In-gul (director of the Star Sports Zone), Jung Young-seop, head of the Seoul Transportation Corporation, Cho Won-hyun, CEO of Island Village Story, and Jeong Seok-hwan, director of Kangho E&T.
Sanghoon Lee’s first manager is a pitcher who joined Cheongbo Pintos in 1987 after leaving Daegu Soochang Elementary School, Gyeongsang Middle School, Gyeongbuk High School, and moved to OB Bears (now Doosan Bears) in 1988 and spent five years as a professional player until 1992.
After turning into an amateur leader after retirement, he served as manager of the Guri In Warehouse for 17 years and also served as manager of KT Wiz Futures. As an amateur leader, he produced numerous professional baseball players including Bae Young-soo, Kim Kwang-min, Yoon Seok-min, Kim Tae-hoon and Jung Sung-gon, and is widely known as an expert in fostering players.
“Our university has high expectations and hopes for the newly established men’s baseball team following the soccer team,” said Lee Jong-jin, president of Jangan University. “We will actively support Jangan University’s baseball team to grow rapidly in the future. Sanghoon Lee, the first coach to take the helm of the founding team, said, “I sincerely thank the officials who helped establish a baseball team at Jangan University,” adding, “We will do our best to make Jangan University’s baseball team a prestigious one in the future.”
Meanwhile, Jangan University has decided to build a ballpark on the school site with the goal of establishing it in 2025 and plans to start preparing for recruiting players.
