MLB insider John Heyman said on the 14th (Korea time) that Jordan Montgomery told the Boston Herald that he would be happy to sign with the Red Sox, but that doesn’t seem to be all true.
Heyman claimed Montgomery did not see Boston as a playoff contender and ignored Vostain’s four-year contract offer. 메이저놀이터
Montgomery reportedly had a three-hour video consultation with Boston at the time.
According to Heyman, Montgomery was waiting for an offer from the Texas Rangers but never came. He also declined to reunite with the Yankees, who would earn a total of $72 million over the next four years. Eventually, Montgomery signed a one-year contract worth $25 million with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Montgomery posted a disastrous 6.25 ERA in 23 games.
Montgomery, who led the Texas Rangers to the World Series championship last year, aimed to make a big splash in the FA market. However, negotiations were slow despite expectations.
“Obviously, Boras made a mess of negotiations. My wife and I loved it here. She had been in Beth Israel for a year, loved the area, loved the fans,” Montgomery said. “I wish I had signed with Boston, but it didn’t work out that way.”
Eventually, Montgomery fired Boras in April and switched agents to Wasserman.
Boras was furious at Montgomery’s shooting.
Also, according to the Boston Herald, Boras said, “I saw what Montgomery said. I know what frustrates me about this,” adding, “As a former player, I like him. But I’m also a lawyer who has a (secret) obligation to clients, including former clients. I can’t talk about what happened or the decisions he made unless Montgomery allows it.”
“If he gives me approval, I’ll be happy to disclose it. I’ve been doing this for over 35 years. I communicate all offers and relevant information to all customers and act on their instructions. They make all the decisions,” he countered.
