Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers has great power. He even summoned Ricky Henderson, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with Choo Shin-soo (current SSG Landers).
Ohtani started as the first designated hitter in a home game against the Chicago Cubs of the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California on the 12th (Korea time) and scored two hits, one walk, three RBIs and one run in four at-bats, including one home run and one stolen base.
Ohtani will join the 50-50 club for the first time in MLB if he adds three homers and two stolen bases in the remaining 16 games of the regular season.
Ohtani increased his MLB career home run to 218, tying Choo Shin-soo’s record for the most home runs in a single Asian major leaguer. Choo Shin-soo hit 218 home runs in 1,652 games over 16 big league seasons, while Ohtani hit 218 home runs in 859 games in seven seasons. If Ohtani adds one more home run, he will be the star of the most home runs by an Asian player who has played in MLB. 먹튀검증
According to reporter Sarah Reims of MLB.COM, Ohtani recorded both home runs and stolen bases in 12 games this year. Ricky Henderson (13 games) in 1986 has recorded both home runs and stolen bases in more games than Ohtani since 1900.
Henderson made his big league debut with the Oakland Athletics in 1979 and retired from the Dodgers in 2003, where he played for 25 years. He is a legendary figure who recorded a batting average of 0.279 297 homers, 1115 RBIs and 1406 steals in 3,081 games. A former star player who has recorded the most goals scored and stolen bases in MLB history, he entered the Hall of Fame in 2009.
Bobi Bonds in 1973 and Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2023 have both home runs and stolen bases in 12 games, the same as Ohtani.
If Ohtani harvests two more home runs and steals at the same time in the remaining 16 games, he will exceed Henderson’s record.
Ohtani hit a line-drive home run at 19 degrees Celsius and 190.1 kilometers per hour in the top of the first inning of the game on Wednesday, and manager Dave Roberts said, “This is a home run that Otani can hit. If it were a different player, it would have been a double. Ohtani is playing really good baseball.”
Ohtani will play four consecutive away games against the Atlanta Braves from the 14th after a day off on the 13th.
