Attention is focusing on whether Eric Peddy, a former MVP of the Korean professional baseball (KBO), will be able to appear on the fall baseball stage this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals acquired Peddy through triangular trade with the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is the first starter in his team.
MLB.com said on the 30th (Korea time), “St. Louis has decided to receive cash and a player from the White Sox, Tommy Pham, and the Dodgers.” The Dodgers have recruited right-hander Michael Kopech, St. Louis infielder Tommy Edman, and right-hander Oliver Gonzalez. The White Sox, which sent players to both clubs, decided to take over Dodgers shortstop Miguel Vargas, infielder Yeral Perezwak Alexander Albertus, and a player and cash on behalf of him.”
The Dodgers strengthened the bullpen and fielder’s depth, the St. Louis strengthened the starting lineup and outfield, and the White Sox secured rebuilding resources.
Peddy, who was selected as MVP with 20-6 losses, 2.00 ERA and 209 strikeouts with the NC Dinos last year, signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the White Sox and re-entered the Major League, will move to St. Louis, which is aiming for the postseason after being recognized for his skills this season. 먹튀검증
Peddy spent six years with the Washington Nationals before joining the KBO, but did not receive much attention and chose to go to Korea. After an upgrade process for one year in the KBO, he stood tall at St. Louis as the top starting pitcher this year. He pitched 121 ⅔ innings in 21 games, posting 7 wins and 4 losses with an earned run average of 3.11, 108 strikeouts, WHIP 1.14 and a batting average of 0.227. He was ranked 11th in ERA, 15th in innings pitched, and 17th in WHIP.
In particular, Pedi was 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA in four games in July. He lost against the Seattle Mariners on the 28th by allowing three runs on six hits in four innings, but the ball itself was not a problem.
Peddy is expected to start first in St. Louis. Currently, the rotation of St. Louis is in the order of Andre Palante, Lance Lynn, Sonny Gray, Kyle Gibson, and Miles Mikolas. There is no ace among them. Mycolas, who started the opening game, has consistently maintained the rotation, but has ups and downs with eight wins and eight losses and an earned run average of 4.99 in 22 games. Gibson has seven wins and four losses in 20 games, Gray has 10-6 losses and an earned run average of 3.79 in 19 games, and Lynn has five wins and four losses and an earned run average of 4.17 in 20 games, respectively. Palante is originally a bullpen pitcher.
As of Tuesday, St. Louis is ranking second in the National League Central with 54 wins and 51 losses and fifth in the wild card category. It is six games behind the Milwaukee Brewers, ranking first in the district, and one game behind the New York Mets, ranking third in the wild card category. The FanGraphs suggested that St. Louis has a 29.9 percent chance of playing in the postseason. The team should make all-out efforts for fall baseball.
Edman, who was a Korean-American and played in the World Baseball Classic last year, is undergoing rehabilitation after undergoing surgery after injuring his right wrist in the last spring training. He was playing a rehabilitation game at Double-A Springfield Cardinals under St. Louis on the 10th. He is expected to be registered in the big league immediately after his transfer to the Dodgers.
St. Louis also used Edman as a trade card after receiving Peddy’s credit card in part because of payroll management. MLB.com said, “Due to financial restrictions last year and this year, the Cardinals had to save as much as possible payroll due to potential deals. It offset the remaining $7.5 million in Peddy’s annual salary this year and the remaining $8 million in Edman’s annual salary this year. Peddy will receive $7.5 million next year as well.”
