“I didn’t even throw it when I was loosening my arms…” The key to victory was ‘Slider’ with 13G’s scoreless pitching

LG Twins’ Lim Chan-kyu became a winning pitcher after writing a quality start with six scoreless innings in the game against KT Wiz.

At a home game against KT of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Sunday, LG won the game 6-1. As the starting pitcher, Lim pitched six innings, three hits, three strikeouts and no run, and posted his eighth win of the season. It was the first time in 13 games that Lim Chan-kyu pitched no run since he allowed no run in five innings of 9K against Changwon NC on May 2.

He threw a maximum of 145 km/h fastball with curves, sliders, and changeups to tie up KT’s batters. In the top of the first inning, Lim Chan-kyu struck out the first batter Rojas with a three-pitch curve ball, and Kim Min-hyuk swung and missed to the left field. Later, he allowed a walk to Moon Sang-chul, but Kang finished the inning with a fly ball to the shortstop. 토토사이트

In the top of the second inning, Hwang Jae-kyun’s left-handed hit and Oh Yoon-seok’s sacrifice bunt came out after Bae Jeong-dae’s walk, driving them to second and third bases with two outs. After that, Lim Chan-kyu and Park Dong-won’s battery gave Shim Woo-joon a walk that was close to four pitches on purpose, and Cho Dae-hyun made a double play to prevent the crisis.

In the top of the third inning, when LG took a 2-0 lead, Kim Min-hyuk was allowed to hit a heavy hit and steal after a grounder to the second base of Rojas, but he struck out Moon Sang-chul and Kang Baek-ho. The score in the bottom of the third inning was 4-0, and Lim Chan-kyu had a left-handed hit by Hwang Jae-kyun in the top of the fourth inning, but he struck out Bae Jeong-dae and handled Oh Yoon-seok with a double play to end the inning.

Since then, he pitched neatly without any significant risk. Shim Woo-joon hit a fly ball to right field in the top of the fifth inning, Cho Dae-hyun hit a grounder to shortstop, and struck out Rojas. In the top of the sixth inning, he finished his pitch with a ground ball to second baseman Kim Min-hyuk, catcher Moon Sang-cheol, and strikeout Kang Baek-ho.

After the game, Lim Chan-kyu said, “I focused more on KT’s batting lineup than I was conscious of Benjamin,” adding, “Actually, it was a ball that I didn’t even throw when I warmed up my arms, but (Park) Dong-won gave me a lot of slider signs. In the first inning, I asked Rojas to get the second slider and set the key with the slider, and I think he made a lot of mistakes as the slider worked well.”

Now, he has two wins to go until his 10th win. Lim Chan-kyu has achieved double-digit wins in three seasons including last year, but he has never recorded 10 wins in two consecutive years. However, Lim said, “Winning is really an area of luck. Of course, I want to do it, but it is better to go out like this and bring good results every time I play,” adding, “As I have suffered from injury this year, the number of games itself is small, but I am happier and better to throw more than six innings every time I play.”
